Jr Scientists in the Sea (JSIS) Summer Camp Key Largo

Key Largo, FL

July 15 - 21, 2018

Become a certified diver
(must be able to swim and demonstrate watermanship competency)2

For certified divers1:

  • Advanced Open Water Diver3
  • Rescue Diver3, 4
  • Underwater Archeology3,5
  • Coral Restoration3,5
  • PADI EFR or DAN DEMP3

Provided: Transportation from and to MIA or FLL; Lodging, Meals; All SCUBA Gear, All training materials.

Entry level students will receive the Open water course, to include “Peak Performance Buoyancy.” An introduction to Rescue Diver, Underwater Archeology and Coral Restoration will be provided.

Certified divers can choose three of five available programs: Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver4   Underwater Archeology, Coral Restoration, PADI EFR or DAN DEMP.

All students will dive the crystal-clear waters of Key Largo. They will also visit REEF HQ and have an introduction to Lionfish.

Cost $1,500

St. Croix, USVI

June 24 - 30, 2018

They will also visit the rainforest and experience the rich culture of the US Virgin Islands.  Because St. Croix has a JSIS chapter, the students will be guided by the local middle school, high school and University of Virgin Island Students.

J. Morgan Wells Aquanaut Camp

Key Largo, FL

July 29 - August 4, 2018

Become a Certified Aquanaut.

Work and spend the night underwater

Certification will be earned as:

  • Aquanaut Specialty
  • Underwater Archeologist Specialty
  • Must be 13 years old; Must be a certified diver1

Provided: Transportation from and to FLL or MIA; Lodging, Meals; SCUBA Gear (divers should have mask, fins, snorkel), all training materials

Students will learn underwater archeology and then use those new skills to survey real submerged artifacts. They will spend the night in a real underwater habitat, and submit reports and data via the internet. They will also learn habitat watch standing and diving emergency procedures.

Cost $1,500
